Finn · Last updated

The short version: you can play Finn entirely as a guest, with your game stored on your device. The data that leaves your device is anonymous analytics that help me improve the game, plus, if you choose to sign in, your completed-run stats for the leaderboard. Finn shows no ads and does not sell your data.

What stays on your device

Finn needs no account to play. Your game data (trades, portfolio, progress, achievements, and settings) is stored on your device. It is not uploaded anywhere unless you sign in, and it is removed when you delete the app. You can also clear it any time in Settings.

Analytics, so I can improve the game

Finn uses PostHog, a product-analytics tool, to understand how the game is played: which screens and features people use, where they get stuck, which modes they enjoy. I use this only to make Finn better. It is first-party analytics tied to a random identifier, not to your name, and it is never sold or used for advertising. There are no real-money accounts or financial data involved, because the whole game runs on paper money.

If you sign in (optional)

You can play forever without an account. If you choose to Sign in with Apple, two things happen: Apple shares your name and email with Finn (you can hide your real email with Apple’s private relay), and your completed-run summary stats sync to a database so you can appear on the leaderboard and keep progress across devices. Your active game stays on your device. Sign out to stop syncing.

The AI analyst (iOS)

On iOS, Finn’s in-game AI analyst runs entirely on your device using Apple Intelligence. Your questions and its answers are processed locally and are not sent to me or to any server.

App updates

Finn delivers over-the-air updates through Expo. Checking for an update may send your device’s IP address, app version, and operating-system version to Expo’s servers, solely to deliver the right update. This is covered by Expo’s privacy policy.

Market data

Every historical price, financial statement, and news headline in Finn is bundled with the app, not fetched live, and real companies appear under fictional names. It is for education and entertainment, not investment advice.

Children

Finn is suitable for a general audience. It collects no financial information and no contact information beyond an optional Apple sign-in. The analytics above record in-game usage only.

Your choices

  • Play as a guest to keep everything on your device.
  • Clear your local data any time in Settings.
  • Sign out to stop syncing your stats.
